ISMS

IsmsISM -
The word Ism means Doctrine, theory, system etc, regarding religion. It is the Greek word for "ismos" meaning practise. It could also mean a doctrine or cult or theory. Basically it means adherence to a particular system or principles.

ATHEISM
The belief that there is no God.

ARIASISM
The doctrines of Aries who taught that Jesus was not of the same substance as of God.

ALTRUISM
Unselfish concern for the welfare of others.

BAPTISM
The rite of sacrement of admitting a person in to Christian Church by dipping him in water or sprinkling water on him.

BABISM
Persion religion founded in 1844.

BAHAISM
The branch of Hinduism founded by Ram Mohan Roy also known as Brahma Samaj - castless 7 strict vegetarianism

BUDDHISM
Religion of central and eastern Asia - founded by Gautama Buddha, stressing about "Nirvana" - (a divine state of release from body pain & sorrow).

CATECHISM
Teaching religion by questions & answers.

COMMUNISM
A theory or system based on the ownership of all property by the community as a whole without any belief in religion.

CONFUCIANISM
Ethical teachings of Confucius, emphasisng devotion to parents, ancestors worship and maintenance of justice and peace.

CABILISM
An occult rabbinical philosophy based on a mystical interpretation of the scriptures.

DEISM
The doctrine that God created the world and its natural laws but takes no further part in its funtioning.

DEMONISM
Belief in the existence of demons.

DESPOTISM
Tyranny - devoid of any religion.

DOGMATISM
States opinion in an arrogant assertion, usually about other religions.

DUALISM
The theory that the world is ultimately composed of mind and matter.

EGOISM
The tendency to be self centred-self above God.

EUPHIMISM
Use of a less expressive word for a distasteful, or offensive word.

EVANGELISM
Any zealous effort in propagandising or preaching a Gospel.

FASCISM
Doctrines, methods, charaterised by dictatorship, with out any belief in religious norms.

FUNDAMENTALISM
Religious beliefs based on a literal interpretation of the Bible.

GNOSTICISM
A system of belief combining ideas derived from Greek philosophy, oriental mysticism,and ultimately Christianity.

HEBREWISM
A characteristic-ethical system, moral attitude etc. of Hebrews.

HEDONISM
The doctrine that pleasure or happiness is the principal goal and the proper aim of action.

HELLINISM
The character, thought, culture, ethics, and religion of Greeks.

HINDUISM
Religion 7 social systems & customs of Hindus.

HUMANISM
A rationalist movement that holds that a man can be ethical finds self-fullfilment etc. without recourse to supernaturalism.

IDEALISM
Theory that holds, that things exist only as ideas in the minds, behaviour or thought based on one's ideas.

INDIVIDUALISM
The doctrine, that self interest is the proper goal of all human actions - egoism - ignoring religion.

ISLAMISM
Muslim religion-submission to God –monotheistic religion in which the supreme Deity is Allah.

JAINISM
Religion founded by Mahaveera - emphasising on asceticism and reverance for all living things.

ZIONISM
Is a movement for the establishment of maintenance of a natural Jewish state in Palestine, the ancient Jewish homeland. Active Zionism began in 1,800 and Irael was established in 1948. Zionism now supports various projects in Israel and Jews in other countries. Zion is the Hebrew poetic name for Palestine.
